Noise Pollution: A pollution so prevalent, that cannot be seen nor be noticed.

For most of us, the concept of pollution is defined to nature and its resources. Such as land pollution, air pollution, and water pollution.

Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the environment and bring adverse effects. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem and the balance in the environment.

Noise pollution is the presence of intrusive and excessive sounds that can seriously influence human health either mental or physical health and can cause damage to ecosystems.

The Effects

  • Fatigue
  • Sleep
  • Concentration
  • Behavior
  • Communication
  • Hypertension
  • Productivity Depletion
  • Hearing Loss

Noise pollution is detrimental to not only the well being and health of humans but also adversely affects plants, animals and marine life.

The effect of sound on humans, plants, marine life and animals depends not only on the intensity but also the duration of exposure, frequency and type of noise.

How is noise measured?

Sounds are measured in decibels (dB).

This scale shows various different noise levels.

End noise pollution?

Noise pollution cannot be easily solved, we can’t simply lower the volume down but why not make use of it? Why not make good use of excessive noise through design and technology?

Sound produces a relatively low level of energy, making sound a potential source of energy. However still in the research phase sound harnessing technology is virtually an unused source yet not entirely impossible and could mean a new era in green renewable technology.
